At Get Ahead we love to encourage our clients to find a community leisure activity that they can use to complement their rehabilitation or to move on to following physiotherapy input.
We have worked hard to make links with local services and support clients to give things a try wherever possible. Our therapists have taken people to Cotswold Boatmobility, 270 Climbing, GBG bike sessions, countryside walks and visited community gym facilities.
There is so much to gain from incorporating leisure into rehab and looking at ways to use these opportunities to work on skills such as balance, coordination, stamina.
I know that I would miss my hobbies if I were unable to continue with them due to illness or injury - and it can take a lot of courage to be willing to give something a try. Be that returning to a previous hobby but having to adapt to doing this a different way, or trying something new.
Sometimes having a familiar face join for support and to understand how your body moves and what adaptations might make the activity easier can make all the difference.
